RE: Laptop Purchase Deposit
Most incoming Upper School students enter Seattle Academy with great excitement about owning and using their own laptop in class every day. We encourage that excitement. The families, however, may feel anxious about the laptop acquisition. The Seattle Academy Technology Department works hard to make the purchase process simple and easy for you.
1. Filll out and Complete Laptop Order Form Below
2. Submit the order form online to Seattle Academy by Friday, July 15, 2017.
3. The laptops arrive at Seattle Academy during the summer and are customized for school use.
4. Your student will receive the laptop during orientation at the beginning of the school year.

The Benefits of the Standard School Laptop:
The Technology Department negotiates for a bulk order of laptops and resells the laptops to families. The school has offered this service for eighteen years and typically provides a laptop and service package at a significant discount below the comparable retail price. Students using the standard school laptop experience greater reliability and ease of use for their required academic classes. Teachers select the software and electronic texts for their classes based on the reasonable assumption that all students attend class with standard issue laptops. The school can ONLY ensure that required software for required classes runs on your student’s laptop if you purchase the laptop through the school.
The laptops will be covered by Dell’s Complete Care Warranty for four years. This will cover repairs due to both defect/failure of the laptop and accidental breakage. What this means is that if someone spills a glass of water on the computer, repair or replacement is covered. If the laptop is dropped, repair or replacement is covered, with no deductible. This is important because a damaged screen or motherboard can be quite expensive. In addition, it simplifies and speeds up repairs since all of these computers will have identical repair coverage. However, loss and theft are not covered; they should be dealt with through a loss and theft insurance policy, at your discretion.
We encourage you to compare the price of the Seattle Academy laptop to the price of other makes and models.
When comparing be sure to add on the comparable cost of a similar Accidental Damage Protection and
extended warranty. We are confident you will find the Seattle Academy package very competitive. Please
review the price breakdown on the next page.
Laptop Information from Dell:
Dell Latitude e7470 Touch Ultrabook – This is not the exact configuration. The student’s model will have a
QHD touchscreen, 16GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, and a 4-year accidental warranty.
The Challenges of NOT using the Standard School Laptop:
Some families consider buying a laptop other than the one configured by the school.
Repairs are eventually needed on any computer. With the laptop chosen by the school, repairs can be carried
out in a day or two; sometimes in hours.
The separately purchased laptops are more difficult, or impossible, to support in this manner. This causes
those students to endure days or weeks without their laptop, makes class time less productive, and strains
their ability to complete assignments on time.
In general, students with separately purchased laptops run into more technical issues inside the
classroom and limited service options within the school.
